Investing in Staff Pays Off For Nelson Law Firm
For Farnworth Rose Solicitors investing in the training and development of staff has always been a priority. Recent promotions, awards and new client wins have shown that this strategy pays dividends in the long term.
The firm has just agreed to support Jane Halliday in the family department in starting the CILEX training course. This is a sizeable financial commitment and Jane joins Charlotte Ormerod in the private client team who is also studying through CILEX, the professional association and governing body for over 21,000 Chartered Legal Executive Lawyers and paralegals.
Also continuing her studies in the private client team is Lois Dixon, already a qualified Solicitor and now undertaking the STEP course. STEP is the global professional association for Solicitors who specialise in family inheritance and succession planning. Lois recently passed her first STEP exam Certificate in Trusts and Estates with distinction and is now studying for the certificate in Trusts.
In the litigation department Mohammed Hanif started his training contract with Farnworth Rose in June 2021 as he works towards becoming a qualified solicitor. He has a keen interest in the business development side of work and is already helping to create marketing campaigns for the areas of law he specialises in.
Emily Fletcher joined the firm in January 2021 and had recently completed her law degree. She is currently assisting in the litigation department and is undertaking a masters degree in law alongside her LPC. She has the full support of the firm and will be provided with the necessary knowledge and experience in all areas the Farnworth Rose have to offer.
The firm also has three apprentices at present looking to follow the example set by Sophie Holdsworth who started as an apprentice in 2011 and last year was promoted to Operations Manager.
Sophie commented:
“I’m a testament to the investment in training and development offered by Farnworth Rose. Having started as an apprentice myself I have been able to work my way up and now have a wide range of responsibilities covering IT, compliance and marketing and much more.”
Emma Moore joined the firm in 2014 as an assistant whilst completing her degree. Not only was she made Head of Residential Property last year, but in March 2021 she won ‘Conveyancer of The Year’ at the British Conveyancing Awards.
Director at Farnworth Rose Janet Lalor reflects on the changes that have taken place:
“We really have embraced the idea of promoting from within wherever possible, investing in both formal and informal training for staff at all levels and giving people the chance to be the best they can be.
Last year’s promotions for Emma and Sophie were well deserved and really highlighted to us the benefit a business can get from bringing people in who have the aptitude and attitude and just need time to develop additional skills and experience to excel in their fields.
Formal training and qualifications can be a significant outlay, but it’s important for businesses to look at this as a long-term investment not a short-term cost.”
