Farnworth Rose celebrates International Women’s Day

Sunday 8th March 2020 marked International Women’s Day with events across the globe calling for a gender-equal world.

International Women’s Day can be traced back to 1908 when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote.

By 1910, the idea to make the day international was suggested at an International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen. The day was first celebrated in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

At that time, women were still unable to enter the legal profession. It wasn’t until the introduction of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act in 1919 that women could become lawyers.

100 years on from women’s entry into the legal profession, Farnworth Rose are delighted to support women in the law.

Here at Farnworth Rose, we are keen to back local women’s sports. This season, we have supported Pendle Forest Hockey by sponsoring their player, Sam Parker.

Pendle Forest has seen tremendous success in recent years after securing five successive promotions. The club is now competing in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Conference North for the first time in their history.

The team has continued that success picking up an impressive 8 wins in their 16 games to sit comfortably in 4th place in the table heading into their final 2 games.

Janet Lalor, Director at Farnworth Rose commented:

“As a firm, we believe it is important to support women both inside and outside the organisation, whether that is through supporting staff to take on courses to develop their skills or through providing sponsorship to local sports teams.”
