Reminder of furlough deadline tomorrow

Employers should be aware that there is just one day left to place employees on furlough that have so far not been on the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

Last month the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced that the current version of the Scheme will close to new entrants on 30 June 2020 and that only employees who are currently furloughed (or have previously been furloughed) and for whom a claim has already been made to HMRC prior to 1 July 2020 can be furloughed under the new version of the Scheme.

This means that the final date by which an employer needs to agree with their employee and ensure they place them on furlough, taking into account the obligatory minimum 3 week furlough period, is tomorrow 10 June 2020.

The new scheme, which will run from July to October, will provide employers with the flexibility of  being able to bring furloughed employees back part-time.
