Probate Delays Add More Stress For Grieving Families

According to official figures, the average time from application to the grant of probate stood at 9.3 weeks in October 2021.

Those figures are for cases that have gone through without a request for further information. For those that have been stopped for any reason, which could include missing details or names that don’t quite match up, it was taking 17 weeks online and 21 for paper applications.

Lois Dixon, Solicitor at Farnworth Rose commented:

“The delays in obtaining a Grant of Probate are adding further stress on relatives of the deceased during a time when they are still grieving. Whilst the situation seems to be improving we are still a long way from the timescales we have previously come to expect.

Although we appreciate it’s a difficult time, we would urge families to start the probate process as soon as possible. By instructing Farnworth Rose to obtain the Grant of Probate for you, you will be reducing the chances of making a mistake and causing further delays.”
