Burnley is a town in Lancashire, England, with a 2001 population of 73,021. Burnley has held a market for more than 700 years. In 2013 Burnley received an Enterprising Britain award from the UK Government. The name Burnley is believed to have been derived from Brun Lea, meaning “meadow by the River Brun”. Burnley’s grammar school was founded in 1559, and moved into its own schoolhouse next to the church in 1602. By 1910, there were approximately 99,000 power looms in Burnley. There is a total of 191 Listed buildings in Burnley. There were widespread celebrations in the town in the summer of 1960, when Burnley FC won the old first division to become Football League champions.
